The capercaillie - A relict from the Ice Age

Snow and ice shaped 10,000 years ago large parts of Europe. But then the continent should escape from the frosty grip.

With the end of the Würm glacial stage, the triumph of the pine forests began in the Alps. And with them came also one of the most fascinating and mysterious bird species to Europe. A knock, squires and trilling penetrates the stillness of the dawn. The beginning of a spectacle that always attracts people. Since the last ice age, the capercaillie is a fixed part of the alpine flora. The observation of these beautiful birds is one of the most fascinating experiences in the local mountain forests. Whether it will be possible to see the capercaillie in its natural habitat in the future, depends to us humans.
